Security: How do I active the Windows XP firewall?
Firewalls keep your computer and your personal details safe when you are online. A firewall is a system that prevents unauthorised access to a computer over a network, such as the internet. Firewalls can be either hardware or software - businesses tend to use hardware, home users tend to use software. Windows XP has a built-in firewall for each dialup or network connection. You can turn on the XP firewall, by following the below instructions;
- Click Start>Programs>Accessories>Communications>Network Connections
- In the Network Connections Window, right click on your internet/network connection
- From the drop-down menu, select Properties then select the Advanced Tab
- Tick the Box located under "Internet Connections Firewall" and select OK to close the Properties Window
